What Are You Showcasing?

Much has been written about the state of college recruiting on laxallstars and other sites, about how the system is broken. I’m not going to disagree with that. I don’t believe 9th graders should be making verbal commitments or that college coaches should be offering spots to players who have barely made a varsity impact. Instead of writing about how broken the system is I’m going to focus on player development. My biggest question regarding this process is “What are you showcasing?”

The day begins really early. Between the youth tournament and hosting the game between the Hamilton Nationals and Rochester Rattlers it’s going to be a long day. It’s always weird to be putting on sunblock before the sunrises. At 4:30am I’m making sure I have everything for the 2nd Annual MLL Experience Tournament and praying that we don’t have any thunderstorms. After eating a delicious protein bar I arrive at the field at 6am to set up the tournament.

This year the ELEV|8 Sports Institute with the help of the Palm Beach Sports Commission decided to host a regular season game as a final test to see if the South Florida market can support a team. It will be the 3rd game of the 2013 MLL season that has been played in the South, joining Tampa, FL and Atlanta, GA. We’re excited to host the Hamilton Nationals and Rochester Rattlers. Months and months of planning go in to running an event of this size.

One of the greatest lacrosse events I’ve ever been apart of is the Pockets and Sockets Tournament. Its a charity tournament benefitting the Michael Stolzenberg Trust. You might have seen Mikey in Lacrosse Magazine or in a recent Dick’s Sporting Good Ad Campaign. I can’t explain to you how proud I am to have coached Mikey but I’m even more proud to call him my friend. ELEV|8 Sports Institute, is an elite athletic developmental center based in Delray Beach, Fla. It started 37 years ago as the Bucky Dent Baseball School and was recently purchased and re-branded into Elev8.
